The book is written by the famous historian of drama and ballet theater, writer-essayist V.M.Gaevsky.The first half of the book is given to two historical and ballet studies, one of which is devoted to the ballet Giselle, and the other - its authors, Corally, Perrault and mainly Mariuspet. The second half of the book is devoted to the most important events in the ballet and drama theatre of Moscow, Leningrad and Paris, which happened a hundred years after the creation of Giselle. The subject of otherworldly encounters, which excited and inspired the great romantic poets of the first half of the 19th century, and in the 20th century turned from poetic and metaphorical into tragically real, combines both parts of the headline. The last part tells about the books of writers, directly or indirectly, their lives and their work related to this tragic topic.
