This book is the result of twenty years of scientific research in the field of Chinese author's collections of the X-13 th., called biji, an amazing and peculiar phenomenon in the traditional writing culture of old China. Collections of Biji, prototypes of which originated in the Tang era (618-907), during the reign of the Song Dynasty (960-1279) began to appear in the set - it seems, every major Sun writer left behind such a collection. This edition covers fourteen collections representing the biji panorama in all their diversity, and contains translations of a significant number of fragments from these collections, accompanied by detailed commentary. The translations that form the basis of the book are pre-presented by brief historical essays of the development of Chinese prose, the natural result of which was the emergence of biji.
