The great Giordano Bruno, escaping from the Inquisition, flees to England. In this country, where the Protestant queen has been sitting on the throne for a quarter of a century, there is still strong opposition of adherents of the Catholic faith. At the royal court Bruno gets the job - to go to Oxford, a secret bastion of Catholicism, and grope the threads of conspiracy against the queen. There in Oxford seems to be hidden coveted for him a book, containing the key to solving the mysteries of the universe. However, exposing the conspiracy and the search for the book is unexpectedly complicated by the fact that in this quiet campus committed a series of mysterious murders, which Bruno undertakes to investigate.
