One of the most significant historical events of the 20th century was the collapse of the communist empire, which was what the Soviet Union was. Back in the mid-eighties, nothing seemed to foreshadow this disintegration: most of the people of the USSR seemed strong and monolithic. But five or six years passed, and the "country of the victorious socialism" ceased to exist.

It seemed that before the independent, sovereign republics, which arose on the ruins of a collapsed empire, opened the space for a great democratic renewal ... Decisive in the process of the collapse of the USSR were three years - 1989, 1990 and 1991.
