Welcome to Oldnon, a dark reflection of Georgian London. It is a gloomy place, a human anthill, where progress goes toe-to-toe with medieval obscurantism, a place full of strange creatures and a variety of human vices. In search of the missing wife Edward Saul is forced to look into the darkest corners of this city - and his own mind.
Along the way, Saul manages to visit a member of a street gang, tinkering with ammunition and bombs, a factory-chemist, a sailor sold on a warship, a veteran of the sea war, almost falls victim to the Inquisition, encounters terrible monsters - all in order to find an escaped wife and understand what the true causes of their common macabre sleep.
