Coming from a provincial working family, Platonov wholeheartedly accepted the October Revolution - and the more interesting is the fact that in his works with unprecedented force transferred personal world-view tragedy, unusually pronounced in "Kotlovan." The very idea of building a "Common Proletarian House" turns "Kotlovan" into a shocking dystopia, where the details of reality acquire incredible, caricature-exaggerated dimensions. This amazing house, conceived as a symbol of the communist "earthly paradise", in fact becomes a graveyard of untrue fantasies.
