"I don't tolerate theatre... primitive and rotten art form, which recalls the rites of the Stone Age and all sorts of communal nonsense..." - claimed one of the crafty Nabokov characters. And Nabokov himself in his adult years, having a very diverse experience of a writer and playwright, whose plays were staged in Europe and America, modern theater, as he knew him, also did not like. Moreover, he put drama turrets below other forms of art, making an exception for only a few masterpieces in the entire world literature. At the same time, Nabokova, apparently, never left the idea to create a play in which in perfect harmony would combine "action and poetry", a play that would reflect the "unique pattern of life" and that special "logic of dreams" that is part of the omen genuine art.
