The collection includes two, probably, the most famous plays of Ostrovsky - "Thunderstorm" (1859) and "The Unattached" (1878). Both plays describe the tragic fate of their heroines. Two broken lives. Two fervent hearts. Two piercing love stories. And two attempts to break out of the vicious circle. In the time of Ostrovsky's "Thunderstorm" produced the effect of a bomb, it is no coincidence that the critic Dobrolyubov called her heroine "a ray of light in the dark kingdom."
Despite the fact that times have changed, the plays do not lose their relevance. Because bigotry, ostentatious virtue, selfishness and self-cherishing will always resist sincere feelings and the real impulses of the soul.
