In March 2019, the outstanding scientist, Nobel laureate Jores Alferov passed away. He was known not only for his scientific developments, but also for his active social activities - Y.I. Alferov always defended the interests of Russian science and knew well the position in which it was located.
In his book he compares the state of science in modern Russia with what was in the USSR. The author does not idealize the Soviet past, but still believes that then science developed at a high rate, and now "ten percent of the population of Russia, having seized all the national wealth, care little about the fact that our country went to the forefront position in the world."
Drawing lessons from the past, Y.I. Alferov proposed concrete measures to bring Russian science out of the deep crisis.
