What is happening today, after the imposition of American sanctions, with the projects of gas pipelines to Europe is remarkably reminiscent of the events of 30-40-50 years ago. The book presents the authors' reflections on the development of the gas business and the cooperation of the USSR (and later Russia) and Europe in this area over the past 50 years. The narration is based on factual materials found in various (including archival) sources and information obtained in conversations with veterans of the gas industry. The authors focus on the construction of the Urengoy-Pomara-Uzhgorod gas pipeline: decision-making processes in the USSR and In Europe, the design and procurement of equipment in the face of strong political and sanctions pressure from the United States. The book is dedicated to people who managed to make deep differences in mentality and ideology in the most difficult conditions of the Cold War to conclude a big gas deal, which has become a strong and reliable bridge between Russia and Europe.
