Today, cyberwars from fantasy novels have become a reality. The U.S. military views cyberspace as the fifth theater of war (along with land, sea, air, and space) involving the Department of Defense, the NSA, the CIA, independent hacker groups - anyone who can create and use computer viruses to strike the enemy. The famous American journalist Shane Harris describes in detail the history of the creation of the U.S. military-network complex and the current trends of its development. We learn about the crucial role of cyberwarfare in the Iraq war, about the collaboration of government agencies with such network giants as Facebook and Google, in order to collect information about users. The author calls for a close look at the partnership of technology and financial companies to patrol cyberspace and finally explains the dangers we all face when we spend a lot of time on the Internet.
