The problem of the emigration of scientists is largely a brain drain. This is a well-known phenomenon that is taking place in many countries. Not only is Russia no exception, but it is also a world leader in emigration. In Russian history, four waves of emigration of scientists can be singled out. The work focuses on the current wave of emigration of scientists. In this regard, the causes of this phenomenon are identified, the scale, the impact of the emigration of scientists on the development of science and the country as a whole are analyzed, measures are proposed to preserve the intellectual potential of the country, the similarities and differences of each of the four waves of Russian emigration of scientists.
