Francis Scott Fitzgerald is one of the largest prose writers in the United States of the 20th century. In his novels Beyond Paradise, The Great Gatsby, The Last Tycoon and others, Fitzgerald was able to most vividly and accurately express the mood of the "jazz age", marked by ceremonial optimism and inflated cravings for consumption, a century that ended in 1929 with the strongest economic crisis.
