"The Financier" is the first book of Theodore Dreiser's famous "Trilogy of Desires", based on the biography of the American railway magnate Charles Yerkes.
The main character, Frank Cowperwood, got rich in just a few days. Largely due to his amazing intuition. At first we have an ordinary guy from a small provincial town. But step by step, Dreiser shows how the environment shapes Frank's psychology of a businessman and a stock market player. He gets into the world of luxury and big money, finds himself in the cycle of the largest financial transactions, rotates in the society of the best dealers of his time. Gradually, an ambitious young man turns into an unscrupulous, overbearing and profit-hungry millionaire.
