This book is dedicated to tanatopathy - the fascinate of our society by death. Thirty years ago Halloween did not rival Christmas, "black tourism" was not a rapidly developing industry, "chic corpse" did not dictate the style of cheap fashion, "green funeral" seemed an eccentric choice of singles, and vampires, zombies, cannibals and serial killers were not the favorite heroes of the public from small to large. Becoming fun, the spectacle of virtual violent death changes our perceptions of man, his place among other living beings and the value of human life, as well as whether it is possible to eat a person. The book proposes a new approach, for the first time considering the revolution in the rites and practices associated with death, and the evolution of the depiction of violence in novels and cinema as a single cultural process. The long history of criticism of humanism and anthropocentrism by French theory, the movement for the struggle for animal rights, transhumanism and posthumanism allows us to trace the stages of transformation of anti-humanism into a commodity of the entertainment industry.
