"Citadel" is perhaps Cronin's most famous book, a wonderful topical parable novel about a man's life path from his formation and development to the decomposition and decline of the individual under the pressure of harsh reality.
Andrew Manson arrives for the first practice in his life with a noble goal: to help as many people as possible. He sincerely wants to become one of those who can truly glorify medicine.
