At the very end of the First World War, a young Englishwoman Emily Bryce falls in love with a young and brave pilot Robert Kerr, who lies in the hospital and soon has to return to the front. Knowing that her parents, who have already found the daughter of a profitable groom, will not approve of such a choice, the girl is enrolled in the Women's Agricultural Army and goes to heavy farming away from home.
