The book presents the artistic prose of J. Joyce (1882-1941), composed before his main work, the novel "Ulyss" (1922). The collection is based on two novels, Hero Stephen (1904-1906; the novel was not finished or published by the author) and Portrait of an Artist in Youth (1916). Two works - the same hero, Dublin boy Steven Daedalus, behind which stands Joyce himself; they are closely related, but at the same time, it is a completely different literature in style and writing, artistic positions and tasks. Placed next to each other, two early novels give a very clear picture of how Joyce's thought worked and evolved, how his skill grew and his understanding of art changed.
Comment accompanying the publication is both ordinary real and analytical, introducing into semantic, historical, cultural and biographical contexts.
