In Operation Shylock, Philip Roth achieved complete indistinguishability of document and fiction. He brings to the stage a fantastic series of real and fictional characters, including himself and his doppelganger - the author of the provocative theory of the exodus of Jews from Israel to Europe, agents of special services, a war criminal, Palestinian refugees and an irresistible woman from an organization of Anonymous anti-Semites. Psychology and style of the novel will be especially interesting to the Russian reader - because the narrator finds in it echoes of F. M. Dostoyevsky. For this work, the author was awarded the PEN-Faulkner Prize.
