Proza Lidii Ginzburg: real'nost' v poiskakh literatury - Van Baskirk, E.

Lydia Ginsburg (1902-1990) is an author whose innovation and place in the literary landscape of the 20th century are still not appreciated. An outstanding philologist, author of fundamental works on Russian literature, L. Ginsburg gained worldwide fame thanks to "Notes of the Siege Man." However, her main achievement she considered prosaic texts written in the table and almost unpublished during her lifetime. The task set by Ginsburg-prose is to create a type of letter that is adequate to the disastrous 20th century and to a new historical subject in the situation of collapse of previous individualistic and humanistic value systems. The study, which was the result of a decade of work in the archives of L. Ginsburg, examined previously unknown manuscripts and provided valuable new information about her life.
The author analyzes in detail the intellectual project of L. Ginsburg, which does not fit into traditional genre conventions and blurs the lines between history, autobiography and artistic writing. The project, centered on the main question of the 20th century: "how to survive without losing the image of the human."
