The monograph offered to the reader is devoted to a sharply controversial topic. The author undertaken a comprehensive study of the death penalty as a social and legal phenomenon (legal, criminological, political and ethical aspects). Much attention has been paid to comparative legal analysis and international legal regulation of the use of the death penalty. The work uses the unpublished jurisprudence of the St. Petersburg City Court.

As a result of the study, the author concludes in favor of the legislative abolition of the death penalty in modern Russia.
