Pervyi Vatikanskii Mifograf

The first Vatican Mythographer was composed at the turn of the 1st-II millennium by an unknown medieval compiler and contains 233 stories of varying sizes, written mainly from the works of the Roman authors of the II-V century. (Servia, Lactancia, Fulgencia, Gigin, etc.), as well as two medieval theologians (Isidore of Seville and Remy from the Lake) who used the same sources. Thus, the Vatican Mythographer is a very interesting slice of different views on ancient myths that prevailed in the last centuries of the Roman Empire. This essay has never been translated into Russian. Together with the collections of Gizin myths already published in 'Aleteia' and prepared by M.L. Gasparov and V.N. Yarho the one-volume 'Antic Mythographers' translation of the Vatican Mythographer will almost complete the publication of the sources of ancient mythology that have reached us.
