The work of the famous British historian Jonathan I. Israel "The History of Holland" is devoted to 300 years in the history of the Northern Netherlands from the Burgundy period to the Napoleonic I era (1477-1806). The chronological framework of the first volume of this study is limited to the mid-17th century, marked by the end of the Early Golden Age in the history of the Republic of the United States. The work is a comprehensive study that, based on a wide range of sources and literature, examines all the significant aspects of life in the Northern Netherlands of that era. Descriptionof religious contradictions, features of the economy and trade, the class structure, way of life and culture, as well as analysis of the foreign policy situation and military actions - all these aspects have found an appropriate place in this work. The author pays special attention to the problem of relations between the North and South Netherlands, the relationship between them, but also the difference. The author's conclusion about the significant disengagement between these regions before the Revolution can rightly be called groundbreaking. This paper explores in detail the processes that led to the revolutionary situation in the Netherlands, as well as the subsequent economic and political power of the Republic, and the description of military actions against Spain invariably takes into account the pan-European foreign policy context.
