King Richard I was a true knight, a born general and an incomparable warrior. With the lion's bravery he fought for his possessions on the continent, fought with the infidels in the barren deserts of the Holy Land. Richard never ruled England the way his father, the monarchist Henry II, or so, like his brother, the mad King John. For a decade, England became a kingdom without a king. Richard spent only six months in the country, but during his years of rule, much has been done in improving the legislative, administrative and financial system. This was made possible by the bright personalities on which the state was governed.
