In the summer of 2018, it became known about the most important discovery: the Antarctic telescope "Ice Cube" registered a neutrinos of high energy - that is, a particle that originated not in the Earth's atmosphere, but most likely came from deep space. Neutrinos have a lot to say about the structure of the universe, but these particles are extremely difficult to catch. It was to solve this problem at the South Pole for several decades was built a grandiose neutrino telescope: in the purest Antarctic ice at a depth of one and a half or two kilometers, threads with sensitive detectors were observed; it is a real miracle of modern technology and one of the most grandiose scientific projects in history. The history of the epic construction, full of breakthroughs and failures, is shown in the context of the rapid development of particle physics in the 20th century.
