After the death of J.R.R. Tolkien in his archive remained a lot of partially or fully prepared materials: sketches, stories, legends, essays - that grandiose foundation on which grew the monumental building "Lord of the Rings."
In 1980, his son Christopher picked up and published the first collection, "The Unfinished Legends of Numenor and Middle-earth," which tells the story of the characters, events and geographical objects mentioned in "The Lord of the Rings": the loss of the Ring of Power in the Iris Fields, the origin of Gandalf, the founding of Rohan and much more. Each story is accompanied by extensive comments clarifying contradictions and inconsistencies in the text.
This publication aroused great interest among many fans of the great writer, and later Christopher continued to work with the archive of his father. Currently, the Legendrium of Middle-earth is 12 volumes.
