Professor Sigmund Freud, a famous psychologist and father of psychoanalysis, receives from the Pope Leo the Thirteenth invitation to come to Rome and conduct for a good reward one important study. The professor needs money, besides, he has long dreamed of visiting Rome. And he's on his way. The pope wants the professor to examine by psychoanalysis the three most influential cardinals whom Leo considers the most likely successors. The elder feels that he survives the last days, and considers it his duty not to allow an unworthy man to be elected to the papal throne after his death. And the reasons for concern are quite real: most recently, under one of the windows of the Vatican Palace were found the bodies of the dead young man and girl. Double suicide is doubtful.
