Vozhd' krasnokozhikh - O`Genri

William Sidney Porter, who wrote under the pseudonym O. Henry (1862 - 1910), is an American writer who is a master of short storytelling.
The future writer was left without his mother early, and at the age of fifteen he dropped out of school and enrolled as an apprentice in a pharmacy shop, where he got a profession as a pharmacist, later worked as a draftsman, accountant and cashier in a bank.
The first literary experiments date back to the early 1880s, when Porter began publishing a humorous weekly in Austin, filling him with his essays, drawings, jokes. Due to lack of money a year later, the magazine closed. Porter was soon fired from the bank, charged with embezzlement, and spent three years in prison, never ceasing to write stories. After his release, Porter moved to New York, and his stories quickly gained popularity with readers, and critics began to call the writer "American Gogol, "American Chekhov".
In total, O. Henry has written 273 stories, the complete collection of his works is 18 volumes.
