Sakarius Topelius (zacharias Topelius, 1818-1898) is one of the most remarkable representatives of Finnish literature. Poet, novelist, storyteller, historian and publicist - he went down in the history of Finnish and world literature, primarily as the author of fairy tales for children. The story of a brave boy Sampo, written by Sakarius Topelius has long been known to Russian readers. But it has acquired a special expressiveness and visibility of images thanks to the magnificent illustrations of one of the best Soviet illustrators of children's books - Alexandra Nikolaevna Jacobson.
Curious boy Sampo-Loparnyok, deciding to ride on a sled, was suddenly far from home, in the possession of a ferocious mountain king. A deer with golden horns helps him escape and hide in the teacher's house. Brave and resourceful Sampo and the teacher managed to cope with evil forces.
