American writer-animalist Ernest Seton-Thompson (1860-1946) was one of the first to make heroes of his works of animals and birds. Perhaps, it was he who initiated a new, realistic direction in the literature about animals, because no one before so truthful and authentically their behavior and habits did not portray. His first book of short stories from the life of wild animals became so popular that set the tone for all further work of the writer, who not only knew his characters well, but loved them, and most importantly, understood.

Ernest Seton-Thompson's works are part of the school curriculum.
