Gabriel Seele (1852-1922) was a French historian of philosophy and painting, Professor of the Sorbonne, author of several works on aesthetics, sociology and philosophy of morality, which had authority at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Based on all the information available and systematic by him about Leonardo da Vinci, the author discusses the contribution of this universal man to science, citing many quotations from the manuscripts of the master. He puts the latter in the context of the modern noosphere and accompanies detailed comments.
The main part is preceded by leonardo's biography, based on the biography of Giorgio Vasari and other lesser-known sources not available in Russian language.
Comprehensive research, which has not lost relevance to this day, is given in modern spelling. All references to third-party editions are preserved.
