In the northwestern part of the Moscow region, there used to be an original Old Believer region known as the Volokolam Aless Forest. It covered a number of areas of Volokolamsky, Mozhai, Klinsky and Ruz counties. It dates back to ancient abodes, including the Levkiev desert. For certain historical reasons, this center of Old Believers by the beginning of the 20th century could not develop into a large, crowded massif, and remained only in the form of small enclaves of settlement of old Believers. Volokolam old-fashioned region was part of a large array of settlements of the zealots of the Ancient Pious, which also covered the lands of the neighboring counties of Tverskaya, as well as The Gzhatsky, Sychevsky and Velsky counties of Smolensk province.
Author of the book - Sergei Mikhailov - historian, ethnologist, member of the Union of Writers of Russia, more than a quarter of a century is engaged in the study of the history of the Moscow Old Believers, is the author of many publications, including monographs.
