The action of the novel "Director. Instructions of liberation" takes place in the city on seven hills: it can be Kiev, Dnipro, Moscow, and many other cities. This non-attachment to a particular city serves as a method of generalization, spreading the action to all inhabited places where there are prisons, and they are everywhere where a person comes. In the city, described in the novel by Alexander Gadol, there is a recognizable, quite modern life with its crooks, cops and corrupt judges, having an exact temporary link to the country where "pioneers have not been accepted as pioneers for twenty years" and where prison - one of the most sought-after institutions.
