The content of the book is determined by the content of the course, read by the author for several years for students of two higher education institutions. The narration was based on lecture courses on the history of the Church, read at the St. Vladimir Orthodox Spiritual Academy (New York) prof. J. Erickson and Dr. J. Bujamroy, but first of all - lectures on the history of the Church, pathology and Byzantine history and culture, read at St. Vladimir's Academy and fordham University Prof. Protopresbyter John Meyendorf. We wanted to make the vision and understanding of the history of the Church to this great Orthodox scholar and theologian the core of this course. The author tried to make the narrative accessible to people with modern education - students of humanities departments of universities or theological educational institutions. To do this, the course is written in a lively modern language. We also tried not to over-burden it with a special terminology, in addition to the theological one, which cannot be done without in this subject. Twenty color cards were ordered especially for the publication. Conceptually, the maps were developed by the author of the book. The cards are printed in a block on chalked paper. The manual is provided with a scientific and auxiliary apparatus (pointers, chronological lists). In the fifth edition, we have included new design elements to help with the development of the material. As a result of the work done, the book, keeping the author's language alive and the ease of the narrative of previous editions, has gained additional qualities that allow even a beginner to easily navigate the series of ancient events, dates, cities, names, battles and alliances .
