"De predicatione sancte crucis" was written by an important Dominican, Master of the Order of Preachers - Humbert Romanesque. The 44-chapter book was somewhat like an instruction on what and how to speak during the sermon of the crusade against Muslims in the Middle East. The author of the treatise quite clearly justifies the necessity of the crusade from the point of view of the medieval theory of just war. Humbert speculates on why the cross should be a symbol of hiking, why the church is engaged in crusades and why only volunteers can take part in the campaign. The document is the largest source of how the Western medieval man looked at such a phenomenon as the holy war. The manuscript, which represents the only manual that has survived to this day for the sermon of the Crusades, has been translated into Russian and French by a historian from nSU.
