The name "New Rome and the Third Rome" reflects the theme of the formation of Russia as a great Eurasian power - an empire that connected most of the geographical Europe and the good part of Asia. The tragic death of the Byzantine (Romei) Empire, the capture of Constantinople by the Ottoman Turks in 1453 and thus the loss of the Orthodox capital of the world, created the problem of continuity of the Orthodox and cultural-historical heritage of all peoples and Byzantine circle and the Eastern Christian world. Thinkers, philosophers and the ruling elite of a young, rising Russia in their own way, not impartially, but fully understood this problem and began to solve it. Thus was born the religious and political concept of the Third Rome. The complexities and vicissitudes of Great Russia's relations with Little Russia (Russia and Ukraine) since their reunification in the mid-17th century, which have caused them to return to their roots and rethink the history of these relations. They were especially acute in our time after the return of Crimea to Russia, during self-determination and the struggle of Novorossiya for its independence. The main canvas and the fundamental motives of the historical prologue of these problems are reflected in the historical and artistic works and novels presented.
