The name of the poet Eduard Bagritsky was recently perceived unilaterally - as a poet-tribune, an active participant in revolutionary battles, glorifying the conquests of October and denouncing his enemies. The book offered to readers attracts documentary materials, memoirs and poetic evidence, allowing a new look at the life and work of a talented romantic poet, to separate legends about him from real events. The author recreates the image of a man awakened by the February Revolution, its democratic conquests and therefore painfully perceived the directness and cruelty of the imposed ideology. "If you read Bagritsky's poems," said the poet and critic Georgi Adamovich, "you will understand that ""politics" was not significant and characteristic for him, that, taking a position in this area, he only yielded to the requirements of the environment. Naturally for him it was to take exactly such a position, which the environment satisfied: at this price he extracted the freedom to be himself in the main" - in the poetic achievements of his best works.
