Jacques-French - so called friends-zeki Jacques Rossi (1909-2004). A linguist, a polyglot, an artist, a staunch communist, a secret agent of the Comintern, a prisoner who had served twenty years in Stalin's prisons and camps, he gained fame as the author of a valuable study, the Gulag Handbook, which was conceived behind the Arctic Circle, on the lumberjack and "buildings of communism", contrieving with the risk of life to hide the collected materials. Returning to France in 1964, he considers it his duty to testify to what he saw and experienced, relentlessly exposing the communist idea. In co-authorship with the writer Michelle Sard, he told in this book about his delusions, about the price paid for them, shared observations, then tragic, then funny, and reflections on what brought millions of people to a dead end of a pernicious utopia.
