Graphic artist Alexander Jitomirsky entered the history of fine art primarily as the author of political photo montages. During the war against fascism, his works were printed on leaflets addressed to enemy soldiers and served as a kind of "pass for captivity". The enemy general issued an order prohibiting "collecting Russian leaflets" and after the defeat on the Volga for their storage had already been shot. The Reichs minister of propaganda Goebbels, having learned with the help of his agent, who makes illustrations to "Front Illustratert", put the name of Jitomirsky in the list of his personal enemies under No.3 (after Levitan and Ehrenburg). These people needed to be "found and hanged." The employees of Front Illustratedworked worked, sparing themselves, to sleep for about four hours. The artist recalled: "All my thoughts were focused on propaganda among the enemy's troops. In order to preserve the remnants of the inner equilibrium, I came up with a small outlet. Before I went to bed, I spent forty minutes out of war. On the left page wrote that he will remember from the pre-war past. On the right imade a sketch - an illustration to the text." This unique diary became the basis of the book "Enemy of Goebbels No.3", which was written in memory of his father by the artist's son - journalist and writer Vladimir Jitomirsky.
