We know very little about the first prince Russ Rurik from the annals. Rurik in "The Tale of Time Years" is a legendary personality. But the main thing in the annals still says: according to the chronicle, Rurik "with all Russ" came from across the sea, that is, from the West. It is not surprising, therefore, that historians in the 19th century began to search for such a historical figure in the West, which could be associated with Rurik. This role, according to many historians, is suitable for the norman leader Rorik Frisland.
The hypothesis about the identity of Rurik and Rurik of Friesland allows you to answer most questions and explain a lot. In favor of this idea so far there are mostly circumstantial arguments, but only this hypothesis is confirmed by archaeological finds in Old Ladoga, where, apparently, Rurik came with his "Friesian dans."
