Nikolai Charushin (1851-1937) was a populist, a member of the Seagulls' circle, a political exile and professional photographer, a land insurance agent and publisher of an opposition newspaper. His biography tells about an entire era in the history of Russia, from the Great Reforms to the Revolution of 1917, the historical politics of the 1920s and the "wars of memory"; during the period of perestroika.
