Prince Vlad III, who ruled Wallachia in the 15th century, made history with dracula's nicknames - not only "Son of the Dragon" but also "Son of the Devil" - and Tsepesh, "The Colosseal." In modern popular culture, his name is strongly associated with the image of a bloodthirsty vampire, while in Romania he is glorified as a folk hero, a fighter for the independence of the country. There are many legends and little documentary evidence about Dracula, but it is possible to recreate the biography of this extraordinary ruler, who lived at the break of the epochs, at the turn of the confrontation of the strongest powers of his time - the Ottoman and the Holy Roman Hungary, Poland. Historian Vadim Ehrlichman in his book explores not only the life of the real Vlad Dracula, but also the development of the "black legend" about him from lubok books of the Renaissance to the latest Hollywood films. Inevitably, the legends of vampires are also affected, although Dracula was associated with them only in the 19th century. Accidentally or not - a difficult question, which is also considered by the author of the book.
