The author of this book, Anthony Blunt, was a leading British art historian and curator of the royal collection. At the same time, he worked for the Soviet intelligence as part of the "Cambridge Five" - the most successful intelligence group in the history of special services. During the onset of fascism in Europe, his choice to stand in the service of the Soviet Union was determined by the values of humanism created by the Renaissance in Italy. Faith in man and belief in reason are ideals that stimulated the Enlightenment, the Great French Revolution, the construction of the Soviet Union and the victory over fascism in World War II.
