This edition includes a seminal essay by the outstanding Czech historian-Slavic Pavel Josef Shafarik (1795-1861) " Slavic antiquities " which laid the foundation for the further development of Slavic studies and had a huge impact on the development of area of knowledge, including in Russia. Using the rich material of ancient and medieval (Western and Eastern) sources, Shafarik carefully explores the environment in which the Slavs lived, their way of life, beliefs, gives a huge amount of information on historical geography, ethnic tribes that inhabited Eastern Europe in those early days.
